Department of Agrometeorology

The department of Agrometeorology was established in 2000. Agrometeorology is the science investigating the meteorologic, climatologic and hydrologic conditions which are significant for agriculture owing to their interaction with the objects and processes of agricultural production. It is an inter disciplinary science in which main scientific desciplines involved are atmospheric sciences and soil sciences which are concerned with the physical and chemical environment and the plant sciences and animal sciences which deal with the contents of the biosphere.

Thrust research areas:
The major thrust areas of research are as follows :
Crop acreage and production estimation (CAPE) of major crop using agrometeorological and                  remote sensing data.
Agromet advisory service including weather forcasting for farmers.
Characterization of agro-climate and crop-weather relation for productivity of major crops.
Forecasting agricultural out put using space, agrometeorological and land based (FASAL)                  observations.
Spectral response of the crops in relation to productivity.
Climate change through Green House Gases.
