The department has three broad areas viz. Animal Breeding, Animal Nutrition and Livestock Production & Management. The post-graduate programmes in Animal Breeding, Animal Nutrition, Dairy Husbandry and Poultry Husbandry were started in 1963-64 and Ph.D. programmes in Animal Breeding and Animal Nutrition in 1966-67. Recently, Ph.D. programmes in Dairy Husbandry and Poultry Husbandry were also started in 1999-2000. Several new P.G. courses have been developed by the department.
