G. B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology was the first Agricultural University to establish a full-fledged Directorate of Placement and Counselling to advise and prepare the students in getting suitable jobs. On an average, 650 and 300 students take degrees in graduate and post-graduate programmes, respectively every year in 134 disciplines.

These graduates and post-graduates are well trained and equipped to manage various jobs in development departments, academic institutions, nationalized banks, industries and other corporate sectors.

The Directorate of Placement and Counselling is headed by a Director with the help of a Joint Director who are assisted by two Assistant Directors. Enough secretariat and technical assistance is available to manage the various activities of the Directorate.

The main aim of the Directorate is to provide effective day to day guidance to the students for purposeful placement on one hand and to introduce them to prospective employers through campus interviews on the other hand.

The Directorate of Placement and Counselling will be pleased to coordinate with the organizations for the following assistance:

· Collection of resumes from the students and forwarding them to organizations

· Delivery of company’s communication to the students concerned

· Arrangements for pre-placement talks, written test, group discussions and personal interviews

· Audio Visual facilities for pre-placement talk

PROCEDURE

Prospective employers intimate the Director about their human resource requirements from various disciplines of the University. The Directorate, thereupon sends biodata of interested students to the prospective employers. A mutually agreed date for holding interviews either at the university campus or employers’ head-quarters is fixed and the candidates are directed accordingly. For interviews held at Pantnagar, the University provides free boarding and lodging facilities to the members of the Selection Committee in the University. Arrangement for pre-placement talk, written test, group discussions, personal interviews etc. are also made by the Directorate.

ACHIEVEMENTS

During the last 5 years, the Directorate contacted more than 4267 prospective employers. Above 252 campus/outside interviews were held and about 955 students were selected through the Directorate of Placement and Counselling. The Directorate arranged mock interviews and several career guidance lectures during this period. Every College have its own Placement Brochure.  A central level  Information Brochure specifically designed for prospective employers has also been prepared.

For visiting employers a  Pre-placement Talk Hall fully air-conditioned with a capacity of eighty seats and modern equipment is available,    where employers brief the students about their organization  through LCD Projector.  Multi media facilities  are  available.
