A BRIEF PROFILE OF DR. B. S. BISHT

VICE CHANCELLOR

Dr. B.S. Bisht had a long distinguished professional career as Scientist, Senior Scientist, Principal Scientist at CIAE Bhopal, Project Coordinator of All India Research Project of Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Director of CIPHET at Ludhiana, Zonal Coordinator of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, North Zone, at Ludhiana, and Assistant Director General (Human Resource Development) of ICAR at New Delhi.

He was born in village Timali of Almora district on 15 June, 1951 and had his primary and middle level education in Schools near his village. Later, he studied at Almora. He did his graduation and post graduation from G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar and had been University Merit Scholar. He completed PG Programme in Management in the year 1982 from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad and was Ponds (India) Industrial Merit Scholar awardee for academic excellence. Later, he obtained doctoral degree in Industrial Engineering and Management from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur.    

Dr. Bisht had contributed in the development of two national level research institutes (CIAE and CIPHET) and All India Research Schemes. He has also guided about 100 students/ scientists for their masters and Ph.D. thesis work in various Universities and research projects. He has been on the Board of CBSE, has served many important Committees of the Bureau of Indian Standards, Board of AICTE, CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Kerala Agricultural University, Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture & Technology, Udaipur, National Horticultural Research & Development Foundation, and Universities at Nausari and Anand. He has also been an expert member for Project Approval Committee of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of India. At ICAR Head Quarters, for about six years, he was responsible for designing, implementing and monitoring human resource development programmes towards academic excellence and R&D.
