The Department of Apparel and Textile Science, formerly known as Clothing and Textiles, has been a part of the College of Community Science since July 1971. In 2022, the department was renamed as the Department of Textiles and Apparel Designing, and subsequently revised in 2023 to its current title—Department of Apparel and Textile Science—in accordance with the BSMA framework.

Aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP-2020), the department has restructured its curriculum to include eight Skill Enhancement Courses (SECs) during the first two years of the undergraduate program. Additionally, the Student READY Programme (SRP) is implemented to equip students with specialized skills in the field of Apparel and Textile Science. As per NEP guidelines, the department also offers eight Professional Elective Courses to students in their final year. The department vision is as follows-
